Reaping The Rewards
Brynllywarch Hall School in Powys caters for students who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The school have used Sleuth for a number of years to support their management of behaviour, recording an analysing all incidents of challenging behaviour. Gavin Randell, the Deputy Headteacher at the school at the time, noticed that a number of the young people in the school often didn't appear in the frequent Sleuth reports on behaviour that were discussed in meetings. He concluded that, if these young people weren't exhibiting negative behaviour then that was something that needed to be recognised, this positive behaviour needed to be acknowledged and encouraged.
“lt was evident that there was a need to radically change for the better our learning and behaviour recording and reporting system. This would empower staff to not only manage the pupil more effectively but also play a more positive role in modifying behaviour“
Sleuth tracks positive as well as negative behaviour so they already had the ideal tool to record and analyse positive behaviour, it was just a case of finding the right strategy for both staff and students.
This case study is the story of that journey and, like most good stories, it has a very happy ending!
